The birth went exactly as we dreamed it would. It was the most perfect, gentle birth anyone could ask for! It all started with a contraction that woke me up about 12:30 am early Thursday morning, but I was able to go back to sleep… for another ten or fifteen minutes till the next one woke me up. I was able to go back to sleep between every contraction until about 2:30 when they got stronger and closer together and I couldn’t lay down anymore. I woke Russ up at that point and labored on the birthing ball for a while trying to stay relaxed. She was posterior so I was having a lot of back labor, so it was perfect to have Russ pushing on my back while circling on the ball.
The time flew by and at about 4:00 the contractions were getting really strong and closer together and I could tell it was just time to get to the birthing center and get settled there so I could really focus. We got to the birthing center around five and I was 100% effaced and dilated to 6 cm. It started getting really intense from there. I’m so grateful for the perfect husband who knew exactly what I needed him to do exactly when I needed him to do it! He got me through everything, his job was way harder than mine!
About 7:30 the pressure started to get really intense and it was already time to breathe her out! I started on a birthing stool where my water broke, but her heart rate was too high for comfort and it was really time to get her out. So we moved to the bed, had a few strong breaths and she was here!
Our little angel, Ella Evolet, was born at 7:59 am, May 17, 2012. 8lbs, 6oz, 21 inches long. Total labor was 7 1/2 hours, you just can’t beat that! They placed her right in my arms, but I couldn’t even believe it was over. I never believed the women on the birthing movies who describe it as an out of body experience, but it really was.
I was able to stay so relaxed that I was still a little out of it and kept asking Russ, “Is she really here?!” Fair warning to anyone who talks to me in the next few months: I will TRY to not preach your ear off about Hypnobirthing, but I can’t promise anything! It was so amazing, so beautiful, and really…. so easy. It was just so relaxed and un-traumatic that even only an hour later I could remember it being intense, but really not even believing it had happened and just talking with Russ about how easy it was. I think HypnoBirthing should be a REQUIRED course for every expecting family, that’s just all there is to it!
